Resolved Question: Electric fence charged wirelessly by power lines?
I have a horse fence charged without a charger -- one segment of it runs below high-tension power lines. A volt meter shows 7 VAC on the 10 scale when the negative probe planted in the dirt, but changing the scale doesn't adjust the reading correspondingly. The 250 volt scale shows a hundred volts. You can just feel the electricity (feels like 20-30 volts), but voltage doesn't change at any point on this looped 1/2 mile of fence. There is some nice of inductive kick effect when you make repeated light touches. Hooking up a charger slowly burns out the charger. How can this be modified to voltage high enough to deter the horses, or allow a charger to be hooked up? Also, bringing flourescent tubes close the lines causes them to light up steady but dim (every by themselves). Can't look visible sparks no matter what you touch to what.
